Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 4, 2026

Shirushicho (印帖) is an iPhone app provided by Shusaku Umemoto (the “Operator”). This page explains how the app and this website handle your information.

This is an English translation of the Japanese privacy policy. If the two versions differ, the Japanese version prevails.

01Information the Operator collects

Just by using the app, the Operator does not collect your name, email address, device identifiers, or similar information. The app has no way to send your records to the Operator.

However, if you contact us, the Operator receives what you enter and your reply email address, and uses them only to reply to you and manage the inquiry. Inquiries are received through Google Forms, so this information passes through Google’s services. The content is also recorded in Linear, the service we use to manage inquiries.

When you tap the app’s “Contact for Take plan” button, the form opens inside the app and its “App information” field comes pre-filled with the app version, build number, iOS version, device model, plan, iCloud sync status, and language. You can review or delete any of it in the form before sending. The contents of your records and your location are not included.

02Records kept in the app

The records you create — images of goshuin and goshuin-jo (temple, shrine, and castle stamps), photos on the back of cards, names and locations of temples, shrines, and castles, visit dates, visit records saved through check-ins or “Add a visit date,” prayers and notes, book covers, and so on — are stored on your iPhone. These are also included in Take plan iCloud sync, automatic backups, and exports.

When you import a goshuin from a photo, the app reads the location and date recorded in the photo and suggests them as the record’s place and date. The location it reads stays on your iPhone together with the record.

03iPhone features the app uses

The app uses the following features. Your iPhone asks for your permission before each one is used, and you can change these permissions at any time in the Settings app.

Camera
Used when you scan a goshuin and when you take a photo for a book cover.
Photos
When you choose from your photos, the app reads only the photos you select. When you save an exported image to Photos, the app asks for permission to add it.
Location
Requested only when you press the current-location button on the map or the “Check in” button. It is used to show where you are on the map and the distance to temples, shrines, and castles, and to confirm that you are near a temple, shrine, or castle when you check in. It is not saved. A check-in keeps the location of the temple, shrine, or castle, not your own location.
Notifications
Used to remind you when it is time to return an omamori or ofuda (amulet or talisman). These notifications are scheduled on your iPhone and are not sent by the Operator.

04Information sent through Apple services

The app does not communicate with any servers run by the Operator, but it uses Apple services in the following cases. Information sent to Apple is handled under Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Maps and place search

The app uses Apple Maps (MapKit) to show maps and search for places. The area shown on the map and the words you search for are sent to Apple.

iCloud sync (a Take plan feature)

When sync is on, your records are saved in a private area of your own iCloud (CloudKit) and synced between iPhones signed in to the same Apple Account. The Operator cannot see this content.

Purchasing the Take plan

Purchases and cancellations are handled by the App Store. The Operator does not receive your payment information or Apple Account information. Whether you can use the Take plan is checked on your iPhone.

Checking for new versions

To find out whether a new version is available, the app queries the App Store’s public information (iTunes Lookup) at most once a day. Your records and device information are not sent.

Nationwide temple, shrine, and castle data

This data is downloaded additionally from the App Store. Your records are not sent when it is downloaded.

Crash reports

If you have chosen in your iPhone settings to share analytics with app developers, reports such as those created when the app stops unexpectedly may reach the Operator through Apple. The Operator cannot identify you from these reports and uses them only to fix bugs.

Apple’s Privacy Policy

05Sharing and exporting records

When you send a record as an image or export records to a file, they go only to the people or places you choose. The app never sends your records on its own.

With “Share the app with a friend,” a message recommending the app, with a link to the App Store (including a redemption URL for the one-month free Take plan offer code), is sent through the share sheet to the person you choose. The Operator does not learn who you sent it to or whether they installed the app.

Automatic backups (a Take plan feature) are saved in a location on your iPhone that you can see in the Files app.

06External pages

When you press a link in the app, such as to a Wikipedia article or GitHub, an external page opens in your browser. How information is handled there is governed by the policy of each site.
